French transport security granted enhanced powers to combat crime and aggression in public transit.

Authorities have officially conferred supplementary investigative authority on railway police forces of the SNCF, RATP, RER, TGV InOui, Transports Paris Île-de-France (ÎdeF), Grand Lyon Mobilités, Transport de Marseille Provence Métropole, Régie des transports d'Alsace-Moselle and Réseau Express métropolitain. This new mandate allows officers to conduct searches of bags without prior suspicion or warrants in response to recent violent incidents involving thefts and assaults on passengers across the national rail network.
